4th 056 hull emerges

As Guangzhou HuangPu's Type 056 getting ready to launch, the silhouette a 056 hull under construction emerges.   This marks four known 056 hulls thus far.

As for the speculation on how many 056s the China navy will eventually procure, it it anyone's guess at this point.

Cambodian, Chinese defense ministers ink military cooperation pact






PHNOM PENH, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Deputy Prime

LSM 966 decommissioned.

Unlike her LSM 978 she is to be scrapped near pier number 2 at Zhanjiang, the same spot where her sisters of the 2nd landing ship squadron LSM 958 and LSM959 met the same fate in 1998.

Will Republic of China Join the South China Sea Fray?


In response to larger number of intrusions by the Vietnamese fisherman, the Republic of China is stepping up its military deployments in the South China Sea islands under their control.   However, the idea of a joint ROC-PRC initiative on the South China Sea is not on the table for now.

Sino-thai cobra gold light concludes

Chongqing Jianshe Industry Group's CS/LM12 7.62mm Gatling gun has been in service with the PLA airborne for some time now.  It is now trying to hawk this monster to police and law enforcement department worldwide.  I'd wonder who would buy it for street patrol.

The 14th Type054A to bear the name 岳阳 (Yueyang)

The newly launched 14th Type054A  (16th Type054 over all) FFG 572  to bear the name 岳阳 (Yueyang).  It is scheduled to commission with the 9th Destroyer Squadron, South Sea Fleet next year.

According to folks from Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai, the lead boat of the 056 Class Corvette will be launched "within days".  Given Hudong's track record, this should come as no surprise.

China is offered to build Indonesia's costal C4I system.

After becoming Indonesia's major supplier of SSM, China wants to step up the cooperation to include defense electronic as well.   This is a perfect case-in-point on China's relations with ASEAN -- it is not all about fishing rights.

Chinese Maritime Surveillance (CMS) to commission 36 cutters in 3 years.

Chinese Maritime Surveillance (CMS) to commission 36 new cutters from 2010 to 2012 including seven 1500 ton class, fifteen 1000 ton class and fourteen 600 ton class "to better protect China's maritime interests".

Not sure what is the urgency but it sure helps to have a strong domestic shipbuilding industry  to handle bursting demands.
